Position Announcement:

Texas A&M University - Commerce (TAMUC), Department of Computer Science invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in our Computational Sciences Research Cluster (CSRC@TAMUC) initiative. TAMUC has received Department of Energy funding, beginning Fall 2009, to develop an interdisciplinary research group interested in scientific modeling, visualization, and computation, and to acquire and deploy a computing cluster research infrastructure.

We are interested in recent (or upcoming) Ph.D. graduates with interdisciplinary experience and interests in computational and physical sciences. In particular, people with experience in deploying and administering high performance cluster computing (HPCC) infrastructures, and in developing models and visualization tools for scientific research in the physical and biological sciences on such cluster computing environments. An ideal candidate will have a degree in Computer Science, and has performed research in conjunction with physicists, chemists, biologists or other physical scientists in order to apply computational models to answering scientific questions in that domain. We currently have scientists participating in the CSRC researching question on neurodynamical based models of intelligence, biology of neuro-chemical processes, high-energy particle physics, advanced material properties, VR and imaging for training and scientific visualization, among others.

Postdoctoral appointments are contingent upon evidence of completion of their Ph.D. degree. The annual starting salary is $US 35,000 though higher salaries may be available based on interests and experiences. Positions are awarded initially for a one-year period and may be renewed.

Requirements:

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in computer science, with research and collaborative experience in applying computational modeling to scientific problems. Applicants with knowledge of cluster deployment and administration, including ROCKS and other cluster configuration and management software, are highly desired.
